With the height of 555.7m, Lotte World Tower is undeniably crowned the highest building in Korea. After its completion in 2017, a top-class luxury hotel entered the tower proudly coined with an upper luxury hotel standard - Signiel Hotel

Signiel Hotel occupied 76F – 101F of the tower, with 235 guest rooms situated from 81F onwards. Signiel takes a break from traditional LOTTE’s properties where sophistication and subtle luxury both play hand in hand, giving the hotel a more in-trend perception. Wilson Associates has the inspiration of “mansion in the sky”, and keeps the Korean tradition alive by using Korea’s national flower – Mugunghwa.

Mugunghwa pattern is adapted across the hotel, from the lobby to the lounge and the rooms. One distinct feature would be the flower installation hanging right in the middle of the lobby stairs where guests walking up or down the stairs would have a 360degree view of the cascading flower.

As it is a high-rise building with rooms from 81 floor and above, the fire regulations are very strict. A lot of materials that Wilson Associates’ design team proposed can’t be used and they had to work with the operator to re-select materials to pass the fire test. Also the shape of the Lotte World Tower is different than other hotels, the space/room condenses as it gets higher and the team had to deal with the multitude of different layout, furnitures and design.

With business travelers the rooms the team designed includes a large desk, oversized mini bars, a large iPad for guests to control the room and having the latest technology. All standard rooms come with 5 fixture bathroom instead of the usual 4. Multiple outlet point around the room so that guests are able to be connected everywhere in the room for easier use.

Wilson Associates design team also found new ways to integrate to traditional standards of the hotel: For Signiel they wanted each desk to not be filled with notepads, telephone, lamps and therefore they designed an extra space attached to the writing desk where the essentials are placed.

The team also used two unconventional colors for the guest rooms, purple and pale blue. These colors are rarely used and for Signiel we wanted something different, colors that are able to blend in with the rest of the materials and still creates the luxurious element in the room.

Asia’s largest champagne bar – Bar 81 - is one of the “Instagrammable moments” of the project. Hanging above, white and gold crystals were designed to act as “champagne bubbles” all around the bar. With a full selection of all kinds of champagne at the bar counter, you will be spoilt for choice whilst enjoying the backdrop of the magnificent sky view of Han River. The back of the bar counter showcases a rock feature enclosed in a glass with gold metal design.
