The site was the Coal Dock of Nanjing Xiaguan Power Plant that nearly had one century history. After the Plant moved away, the dock is the only venue to be reused as the Relics Park which will be open to the public. Some existing memorable records about Xiaguan Power Plant will be displayed in the exhibition hall. And people can drink a cup of coffee or have meal while enjoying the river views in the restaurant that is decorated in industrial flavor. Since the Old Dock is a precious industrial heritage and also a valuable historical memorial place, the design should combine historic culture with mechanical aesthetics, use architectural materials to convey the feeling of solemnity.

Adjacent to the project site, Red House, decorated with red brick wall, blue tiled spire, is in typical style of Nanjing during Republic of China. It is important historical remains. Buildings around it are required to be visually harmonious in urban planning. So the façade of reserved buildings were remade by bricks and the added parts by glass curtain wall to make a distinction between old and new. The integrated landscape design consists of industrial site design, landscape design, ecological elements design. Fusion of industrial relics and modern landscape elements: using local materials to reflect industrial relics and modern landscape elements in the site, forms a new type of landscape. Through refining and abstracting industrial cultures in the site to tell the story of history, culture and emotion in the site. Taking industry and wharf as theme, use experiential art of landscape design to restore history, and to inherit spirit.
